Um, you’re about to die.

Then, you’re gonna come back to life, eat this sandwich, and then die again. It’s THAT good!

Here’s the pic:

Vegan Spicy Sloppy Joes
2 cups of jackfruit, in water (if in brine, rinse well)
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1/2 cup of diced onion
4 cloves of minced garlic
3/4 cup of ketchup
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
a good pinch of red pepper flakes

Tequila Lime Coleslaw
2 cups of coleslaw mix
1/2 cup of vegan mayo
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 pinch of salt
1 pinch of pepper
1/2 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon of tequila
1 tablespoon of lime juice

To cook the sloppy joes, just heat a skillet. Then, add the oil, onion, garlic, and jackfruit. Cook until the onions are tender. Use two forks and shred the jackfruit to mimic the look of pulled pork. Then, add int he brown sugar, garlic powder, black pepper, cumin, and red pepper flakes. Cook on low heat for about 5 minutes until the sauce is nice and thick and mixed well with the jackfruit.

Then, make the coleslaw. Add the vegan mayo, sugar, salt, pepper, apple cider vinegar, tequila, and lime juice to a bowl and mix well to make the dressing. Then, pour over the coleslaw mix. You can eat this at room temperature or if you prefer it to be cold, you can chill it first. Either way, it’s delicious.

Also, I understand some folks run the gambit on how they enjoy their creaminess of a coleslaw. If you like it more creamier, add more dressing. Less creamier, add less. That’s why it’s good to make the dressing first, then you can add as much or as little cabbage mixture as you’d like.

    • Don’t buy it omit it and use anything you want to add a bit of liquid to take its place. I use pineapple juice with a few pineapples in my coleslaw

  1. Taquila! Can also be found in those cute airplane bottles, no real commitment there. Check with your local liquor store!

  2. Amazing!! I made them with steamed buns and used canned jackfruit in syrup. I rinsed the jackfruit to get all of the syrup off and it turned out wonderfully!!

  3. I made this and omg, SOOO good. I didn’t use tequila & replaced it with a splash of orange juice and it still came out good! Thanks for the recipe 🙂
