So, let’s just say that Chicago is probably one of my favorite foodie cities on this earth. There are so many reasons why. We can’t even count the ways. There’s always been a long standing debate on whether or not Chicago has the best pizza. The top contenders are Chicago and New York. I, for one, have had a chance to indulge in both styles of pizza. I can’t say either of the two are actually bad. It really just depends on what you like. You know, like which one makes more of a connection with you.

I could break down the differences, but we’ll save that for another day. For now, let’s talk about Beggar’s Pizza.

I don’t think I’ve ever stepped foot in a Beggar’s Pizza restaurant. I’ve had plenty of slices, though. That’s because, they do a fantastic job at delivery. I normally try to get a hotel near the airport in Chicago and calling up Beggar’s on Grub Hub is simple and easy. If you’re not in the mood for leaving the hotel, you’re near Midway, and want quick and easy – give them a ring.

The Sauce: The sauce is thick and hearty. It’s got a really great tomato flavor. It’s not as sweet as some Chicago sauces can be, which is one of the downfalls, in my opinion. They give you tons of sauce, so be careful if you’re one of those “may I have extra sauce, please?” kinda people.

The Crust: It’s hearty. It’s doughy. But, I find myself just scraping the contents off the dough and eating it that way. It’s a Chicago thing I guess. Then, if I feel like it, I’ll go back and nosh on the newly cleaned pieces of crust. The crust is good, but it’s not my favorite.

The Toppings: This is really where Beggar’s wins over everything else. They give you mounds of sausage and literally, whatever other toppings you want to have added. They’re fresh and plentiful. This is where the bang for the buck really is!

Now, will I make a bee line to Beggar’s when I land in Chicago? Probably not. I’ve got a few other great pizza joints in Chicago for that (Home Run Inn, Aurelio’s, etc). However, when I’m at the hotel and need a quick fix before flying to my next destination, well, Beggar’s wins hands down!

On a scale from 1 to 5, 5 being the highest…I’ll give Beggar’s a solid 3.

There are tons of locations to dine in or order for delivery. Check their website: Beggars Pizza!

  1. I absolutely love Beggars! My hubby is from Chi-Town and it’s the only pizza I eat when I’m there. It’s a must every visit!

  2. I love love love Beggars, but if you really want a good pizza you must try Passero’s in Lisle, IL. It’s like Beggars in the way that it’s hearty and all around yummy, but I think it beats Beggars by a couple of points! Tuesdays are the best days to go between 4pm and 5pm to get half priced pizza’s!

  3. I love and miss Chicago!, I am a foodie too and I haven’t been home in a while. Beggars pizza sounds and looks delicious! What I miss most is Italian beef and Gyros!….

  4. Beggar’s was one of my favorite pizzas, before I ceased eating pork. Afterwards, I lost my love for pizza, simply because I could not find a comparable substitute.
To my great surprise I recently discovered Beggar’s has ground turkey pizza. I lover it!! So much, that I had to ask to make sure it wasn’t pork sausage..
I now have a new found respect for Beggar’s and have told everyone I know about it..

  5. Your mac and cheese baked is IT. How do I know,m because you make it and use the same ingredients as I have come to use over the years I began cooking the stuff. I am going to add some breadcrumb topping to it for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Wish me luck
