I really do love good food combinations. You know, that perfect bite is all about flavors hitting your tongue all at the right time. This recipe has it all – acid, citrus, smokey, spicy, sweet, I mean everything. What makes these tostadas amazing is the quick marinade on the shrimp and the salsa is simply divine. See, you can cut up your fruit into little chunks, but I’m a man and well, I need full sized fruit to bite into – lol. These are messy – so be prepared. Here are the recipes!


Smoked Paprika Grilled Shrimp

1 pound of large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of pepper

1 teaspoon of smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder

2 tablespoons of olive oil


1. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients together and let sit for at least 20 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, get a grill pan super hot. Once the grill pan is just near smoking, grill the shrimp for about 90 seconds on each side.

3. When the shrimp are done, pile them on the tostadas and enjoy.


Fresh Citrus Salsa

2 oranges

1 medium sized grapefruit

2 tablespoons of cilantro

1 tablespoon of minced jalapeño

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tablespoon of minced red onion

1 pinch of salt

1 pinch of pepper

1 tablespoon of sugar

1 tablespoon of olive oil

1 tablespoon of red wine or apple cider vinegar


1. Cut the oranges and grapefruit into bite sized segments and toss them into a large bowl.

2. Combine all the other ingredients well. Refrigerate the salsa until it’s ready to be used.


Chipotle Crema

1 cup of sour cream

2 teaspoons of adobo sauce (buy a can of chipotles in adobo and use the sauce)

1 whole chipotle, minced and seeded

1 pinch of salt

1 pinch of pepper


1. Just combine all the ingredients well and refrigerate the cream until you’re ready to use it.



To assemble, I just load up a tostada shell will the cream, shrimp, and top them with the grilled shrimp!
