Well this is huge! Starbucks is phasing out all of their plastic straws and by the year 2020, you won’t be able to find a plastic straw at any Starbucks location. Other fast food corporations like McDonald’s have even toyed with this idea before. However, it looks like Starbucks is the one actually following through on the more environmentally safe no-straw option!

Back in 2016, Starbucks first announced the idea to to phase out plastic straws. Many of their locations, in the States and in Canada (well 8,000 of them), already took plastic straws away. So what’s in their place? Sippy cups. Well more like sippy lids. Yes. You can literally just sip your drink now right from the cup.

If you’re a person who prefers the use of the straw then there will still be an option available to you. It just won’t be plastic. The new straws will be made of a compostable material. They’re even using two new drinks as part of the new-straw rollout! Starting Tuesday, July 10th you’ll be able to try the Salted Cream Cold Foam Cold Brew and the Iced Vanilla Bean Coconut Milk Latte. Geez those are some long names! Both of the new drinks will be served in the new cup and lid.

This Fall, all stores in Seattle and Vancouver should have the new sippy lids (at least that’s what I’m calling them). This effort by Starbucks is supposed to save 1 billion straws. Wow. How do you all feel about this move? Are you here for it?
