If you’ve been to the McDonald’s drive thru lately and you’ve seen a ‘no salads’ sign this might be why. A parasite called cyclospora parasite has caused at least 100 people to be sick in the Illinois and Iowa areas, and unfortunately it’s linked to McDonald’s salads.
Since May people have been affected. The symptoms are like most food illness symptoms: diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and fatigue. The good news is that, according to CNN, McDonalds is being cooperative: “Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to voluntarily stop selling salads at impacted restaurants until we can switch to another lettuce blend supplier. We are in the process of removing existing salad blend from identified restaurants and distribution centers — which includes approximately 3,000 of our U.S. restaurants primarily located in the Midwest.”
If you’ve been in the Midwest, have eaten a salad from McDonald’s since May, and have experienced any of the symptoms, please go and get checked out. You may need treatment.
