Because life just tastes better when fried chicken, I try to find ways to make it even more tasty. Now listen, don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with the classic stuff. It’s just that every once in a while, I like to flip the script and bring variation to the forefront.

Lemon Pepper Honey Fried Chicken

-1 whole chicken, cut into pieces

-1 tablespoon of Kosher salt

-1/2 tablespoon of fresh back pepper

-1 packet of Sazon seasoning

-1/2 tablespoon of granulated garlic powder

-the zest of 2 lemons

-6 to 8 cups of vegetable or canola oil

-1 egg

-1/2 cup of buttermilk

-3 cups of all purpose flour

-1 1/2 cups of cornstarch

-1/2 cup of honey

-the juice of 2 lemons

-1 lemon sliced

-fresh cracked black pepper

 

1.. Season the chicken liberally with salt, pepper, Sazon, lemon zest and garlic powder. Then, in a large bowl combine the flour and cornstarch.

2.. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least a half hour. Meanwhile, add the oil to a skillet or deep pot and get it hot – about 365 degrees.

3.. In the same bowl as the chicken, add the egg and buttermilk and combine well.

4.. Then, dredge each piece of chicken in the cornstarch & flour mixture and shake off the excess. Then, drop each piece of chicken into the oil and fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

5.. To make the glaze, add the honey, lemon juice, sliced lemons, and black pepper to a pot and bring to a boil. Then, pour over the cooked chicken and enjoy.

  1. I am trying this today!! But I just have drumsticks and wings. What’s the approximate amount for about 2 lbs. Do you think the ingredients would vary.

  2. Looks like a very good recipe. Just a little confused about the instructions. In the video he does not add lemon zest to the chicken for seasoning. He uses lemon zest in making the sauce. He also mentions 1 lemon zest yet recipes says 2 lemon zest. Never saw any lemon slices go into the sauce.

  3. I made this fried chicken for dinner tonight along with the 6 cheese Mac and cheese recipe. It was fantastic! I used chicken breast cut into thick strips (chicken fingers). I also used the lemon honey sauce for dipping so the chicken stayed crispy. This recipe is definitely a keeper. The Mac & cheese was so delicious. I’ve made several Mac and cheese recipes but this was far superior. I didn’t have sour cream so I substituted with ricotta cheese. Thank you. I love your recipes and techniques. I will be trying your other recipes soon.
