Who knew France had some petty in them? Well actually it isn’t really petty but to some it seems that way. The French National Assembly is now making it illegal for any meat substitute to actually be called ‘meat’.

For all the non-vegetarians or non-vegans who may be extremely confused, let me break it down for you. Many vegans and vegetarians call plant-based substitutes their regular name. An example would be the brand Beyond Sausage. It technically is not meat at all, it’s just promoted with the name and ‘taste’ of sausage. Get it? Well in France, this can’t happen anymore.

The French believe it’s misleading to the consumer and I can see their point. In the U.S. the Dairy Pride Act was a thing in 2017, and it’s very similar. The official name is the Defending Against Imitations and Replacements of Yogurt, Milk, and Cheese To Promote Regular Intake of Dairy Everyday Act. Wooooow. They want to stop names on foods like: almond milk, coconut milk, etc.

To me it’s a tad bit extra but I do see their point. What are your thoughts?
